5 Things You Can Do For Breast Cancer Awareness Month🎗️💗

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is more than just wearing pink, pink ribbons, and boobs to be quite frank. It’s about spreading awareness, uplifting those struggling with breast cancer or who have struggled with breast cancer, raising money for a great cause, and sharing information about early detection, preventative measures, and more.

If you’re unsure about how you can help to spread awareness, don’t worry there’s many ways to show your support and share the awareness. We’ve gathered 5 things you can do in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Here are 5 things you can do:

1. Get Educated

First things first. Do your research! Did you know about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime? It’s important to learn what breast cancer is, how it can affect you, the different types, how to prevent breast cancer, and what you should do.

In short, breast cancer is a disease where cells rapidly grow in your breast that can form a tumour. This can affect you physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and more. Although women over 40 years old are at higher risk, there is still a possibility for younger women having risk factors.

It’s important to also be informed of possible symptoms, such as lumps, nipple discharge, swelling of breast, irritation, and more. These can be signs to look out for to prevent the disease from spreading.

Do your research about breast cancer and what you can do to prevent it! Learn more here: https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/about-breast-cancer/

2. Do your regular check-ups

Like stated above, even though you may not be at high risk of developing breast cancer at the moment, it is still important to do regular screenings.

It is recommended for women to get check-ups every 2 years at the clinic. However, there are ways to do more frequent screenings at home, such as paying attention to your breasts, feeling for lumps, etc. This is a great way to be mindful of your breasts and detect any concerns right away.

You can reduce your risk of developing breast cancer by staying healthy, maintaining a healthy body weight, staying active, limiting use of drugs or alcohol, and more.

Vitae Apparel encourages you, your team, our team, and everyone to get regular screenings, such as mammograms, or home-screenings!

3. Buy from brands that help support the cause

It’s great of you to showcase your support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing a pink ribbon or buying pink clothes. However, we recommend going beyond that. We encourage you to buy clothes this month from brands that are doing their part in supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

What will we be doing, you ask? Vitae Apparel will be donating 20% of all sale from ALL SPORTS BRAS this month to National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). In addition, you will have the option to also add your own donation at checkout. Whatever you donate, Vitae Apparel will MATCH your donation on top of the 20%.

There are many brands doing their part in helping to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. When you support them, it helps them support even more!

Participate or volunteer at a run/walk marathon

Run/walk marathons are great ways to spread awareness for breast cancer. It’s a great way to stay local and raise donation funds to the charity of your choice. In addition, it’s a reminder that you are not alone - there is a community that supports you.

Encouraging women to walk, run, or just stay active in general is a great way to lower the risk of developing breast cancer (or developing it back again). For women, walking lowers hormone levels that increase the risk for breast cancer.

So grab your friends, find your local walk/marathon, participate or even just volunteer to be there as encouragement and support! If you can’t find one, why not organize one yourself with some loved ones? It’ll be a fun way to raise money for awareness!

Donate to a charity

If you’re interested and are able to, you can donate to a charity of your choice.

We decided to donate to National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). “NBCF’s mission is to help women now by providing help and inspiring hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education, and support services.NBCF has provided over a million free mammograms, early detection, and patient navigation services to uninsured patients and those in need of financial assistance.”
