8 Self-Care Reminders For Going Back To School

Self-Care Reminders

In honour of our BACK-TO-SCHOOL SALE happening this week, we've come up with 8 Self-Care Reminders For Going Back To School.

A new school year is coming, and it’s coming fast. You may be completely ready to go back to school, or maybe you feel Summer went by in a blink of an eye.

We understand that there's a lot of change that has happened this past year, but we want to remind you that no matter the circumstances - self-care is absolutely necessary.

Here are 8 Self-Care Reminders For Going Back To School:

1. It’s okay to be nervous about starting school again
It’s no secret that this last year has brought many changes into the world. With a full year of surprises, ups and downs, and so much more.

This is your reminder that it’s okay to be worried to go back. It’s okay to be nervous about what’s to come, how to get back into routine, seeing people you haven’t seen in a while, wearing masks, and so much more.

You don’t have to be excited, and it’s okay to be a bit afraid. That’s completely okay and completely normal. You are not alone with this feeling.

2. You don’t have to have everything figured out
You’re going back into a fresh new year and a fresh new beginning. This is great news! It’s a new step in wherever you’re meant to be. However, don’t be afraid if you don’t know what the next steps are.

This is your reminder that you don’t have to know all of the answers, you don’t have to know what you’re doing at the end of the year, and you don’t have to know exactly what and who you want to be.

There’s a high chance that the world around you doesn’t even know what the next steps are! You made it here, and that’s all that matters.

3. Your mental health is still your #1 priority
Hopefully you spent time this summer doing some self-care activities and focusing on you. If you have or haven’t, now is your time to put your mental health as your #1 priority. It’s ALWAYS time to put you and your mental health first.

This is your reminder that no matter how busy you are, there’s always time to do self-care activities. No matter the responsibility, take breaks when necessary. No matter the person, set your boundaries however you would like.

Be okay with expressing your mental health concerns to your peers, your teachers, and your mentors. Choose self-love today, and every day.

4. Showing up is an accomplishment in itself
School is not just about getting good grades or achieving the best awards. Be proud that you even showed up.

This is your reminder that you are doing your best. Whether that is just waking up to get yourself to school, or bringing yourself to class despite bad days and so many concerns - you’re doing your best and that’s something you should be proud of.

Celebrate your small accomplishments, not just the big ones.

5. You are not on the same path as others
Being surrounded by so many others, it can be hard to not compare lifestyles, achievements, and more. However, you are on your own path and comparing yourself to others can only do harm to you, not benefit you.

This is your reminder to not compare yourself to others and to just focus on YOU. Spend less time worrying about what others think of you, and spend more time focusing on bettering yourself!

It’s okay if you had a mediocre summer, or a mediocre grade. This is your own journey, not anyone else’s. They don’t control your happiness, only you do.

6. It’s completely okay to come back as a different person
This past year has been a year of reflection, growth, and continuing your self-discovery journey.

This is your reminder that it is completely okay to be a different and better version of yourself - whatever that looks like for you. Maybe you gained new hobbies or maybe you stopped bad habits. It is okay if others don’t remember you as you are now.

Life is about growth. With time, we change everyday and that’s normal. Don’t be afraid to be who you TRULY are. Life is too short to pretend to be something you’re not.

7. There’s no stupid questions
A lot of things have changed in this past year. Life was a real rollercoaster and there were definitely some grey areas. It can be hard to navigate around it, and there may be some confusion around some new rules or life in general.

This is your reminder that there’s never a bad time to ask a question. Seek help when necessary and reach out to those that may have the answers.

This is your year to find a sense of clarity in your mind and everything around you, darling.

8. You can’t do it all at once
Be ambitious and try new things, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. It’s okay to say no to different responsibilities, if it means you’re saying yes to taking care of yourself.

This is your reminder to be realistic with what you can handle. Your workload can stress your mind and body if it’s too much. You only have one brain and one body - take care of it.

Ask yourself if you can handle being on multiple sports teams, social clubs, having a job, or taking extra courses - all while making sure you have the self-care that is necessary for you to succeed.

Whether you're starting a new school year or just a new season, these self-care reminders will help you ease into any new beginnings.

All of these reminders have one thing in common, and that's putting yourself first ALWAYS.

We hope you have a fantastic new school year and you continue on your path of self-discovery.
