5 TIPS FOR COPING WITH COVID AFTER RESTRICTIONS ARE RELEASED

We’re getting there guys - all around the world we are fighting, and fighting hard against this new virus.

And luckily now, with some countries starting to see a flattening of the curve, we can start to ease some of the restrictions. It’s an exciting time, but it’s also an extremely daunting time for a lot of us. Being in isolation for months, it’s understandable if you’re feeling a little bit unsure about these restrictions lifting. But that is why, we at Vitae, wanted to say, it’s okay, we got this.

So here are a few little tips about how to safely approach releasing of restrictions:

1. Seeing your friends

I know it’s super exciting to be able to see your friends again, but it’s also crucial to remember to keep trying to keep that distance apart. I know not being able to hug your friends will be challenging, but you can still see them, chat, grab a coffee (or wine), and enjoy one another’s company.

Trust me - it’ll still be so special and magical, just being able to see them again.

It’s also super important to keep practicing personal hygiene where possible, so don’t forget to wash your hands frequently.

2. Best places to hang out

Now I know every country’s restrictions are a little different, but if you’re dying to see your friends and the weather’s nice, why not try an outdoor space? It’s a lot safer for everyone that way as you can still ultimately practice your social distancing.

For example: go to the beach, make a picnic, go for a nice walk/hike, etc. Why not try out all three?! (Though maybe not all at once)

3. Support local/small businesses

As small and local businesses start to open up their doors again, try to help out when and where you can.

Even just a small, takeaway coffee every couple days can really help get these amazing, hardworking businesses back on their feet again.

You could even conjoin this with tip 1 and 2 with your friends. Grab a coffee and go for a stroll through the park.

4. Remember to respect workers

I know it will be tempting as your favourite stores reopen, and you’re craving a new outfit for your catch-up with the bestie. However, it is important that when you do shop, to remain respectable and polite to the workers and respect their boundaries.

A lot of stores will only be allowed a certain amount of people inside at once, and whilst this may seem frustrating to you, as you wait patiently inline, your patience is protecting everyone around you. Not only the workers, but you and every other customer like you.

So stay kind and respectful. It’s a weird time for us all, I know, but we can only get through it if we stay kind.

5. Put yourself first

At the end of the day, if you are not ready, or you don’t feel safe yet to get out and about that is okay! If you’re feeling a bit anxious, that is also totally fine and completely understandable.

Especially to us introverts who have loved the escape from reality for a little bit, it will be a lot harder to start putting ourselves out there again. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

So please remember to take it at your own pace, and if there’s even a little bit of feeling anxious and unsafe, to remove yourself from the situation.

It’s okay to not be okay about all this.
