We asked Mimi 24 questions to help you get to know her a bit better:
Hi! I’m Mireille Boutin but a lot of people call me Mimi. I grew up in Quebec city but now live in Montreal with my boyfriend. I studied communications in University and then worked for a marketing agency for a bit after graduating. While I was working full time, I decided to do my personal trainer certification because while I was already passionate about working out, I wanted to have the knowledge to be able to help others live a healthier lifestyle through exercise. I would study at night after work and on the weekends to complete my certification which I obtained in fall 2021. I now make programs that clients can follow online and help them achieve their goals, while making working out enjoyable.
I am a personal trainer, content creator, and a model!
To not worry so much about what people might think! When you act confidently and decide to not care, you become so powerful. But that’s something I sometimes struggle with even now lol! So it’s an advice to my younger and current self haha.
I have always been really active. I was a competitive swimmer for about 7 years and then I did track and field in my last high school years and university. Apart from sports, I would say I became passionate about fitness about 7 years ago.
My parents and brother have called me this since I was a child, but it became more common for other people to call me this in the last couple of years since my full name, Mireille, is very french and I hang out with a lot of english speaking people who can’t pronounce it properly haha. Mimi is easy!
I find it hard to answer this question without falling into gender stereotypes! I love spending hours doing my hair, makeup, and nails and doing all the “girly girl” things, but those are also things a lot of men do these days. Maybe having more clothing options than men (again, all relative) and getting to be a mother one day, which I do want!
1. Start small! It is so easy to start way too hard and get discouraged just as quick as you started. 15-20 min workouts are great to start your fitness journey, and everyone has 20 minutes to use out of their day, so the “I have no time” excuse doesn’t apply!
Start working out! If you’re struggling with self esteem, working out can be so beneficial for your body image and your overall mental health.
It changes all the time, but one I always go back to for intense lift days is Dreams and Nightmares by Meek Mill. It takes me back to my track days when I would listen to it through my earphones before my events to hype myself up.
I went to Punta Cana in February! It was amazing.
That’s so hard to choose haha! But if I had to pick I think it would be intense circuit training.
“Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do. Not a punishment for what you ate” Not sure if it would count as a self love quote, but it’s a quote I love!
I don’t! Haha. There is a huge difference between motivation and discipline - it is so important to distinguish them. “Motivation gets you started, discipline keeps you going” pretty much sums it up! Motivation is great to start, but it comes and goes so we can't rely on it. Sometimes I don’t feel like working out. But the healthy habits I have created for myself make me get up, get into workout clothes, and do what I have to do. Working out in the morning helps me with discipline a LOT.
I get up around 7, get dressed and go down to my condo gym, I work out and if it’s not too busy I film a workout video or two. Then I go back home, shower, eat and work on my clients programs, edit workout videos or film/take more content. My boyfriend comes home from work around 1pm so I take a break and eat lunch with him, then I work for the rest of the day, eat dinner and watch tv. We’ve been loving Euphoria lately!
“You could be the juiciest peach in the world, but there’s always going to be someone who hates peaches!” You’ll never please anyone, no matter what. So might as well do what you love!
Seek progress, not perfection!
Either a fruity smoothie with protein powder or an egg white omelette with bell peppers, onions, and cheese!
If I’m being practical, a fire starter, rope to make a raft and a water purifier! If we’re talking 3 things I truly can’t live without: my cellphone, my skincare and my nutribullet (even though I wouldnt have anywhere to plug it in. Id need a battery powered one lol!).
1. That I used to swim! I said it earlier in another question, but I swam for many years, 5-6 times a week.
2. I love writing! I was considering becoming a journalist in university.
3. I have been living with scoliosis since I was very young. It’s a limitation when it comes to working out so I’ve had to find what works for me.
20. What are your top 5 gym essentials?
1. A water bottle with a straw. I drink so much more when I don’t have to untwist a cap haha.
2. Comfortable, flat shoes for leg day and cushiony shoes for cardio!
3. Lifting straps. They can seem intimidating and you might think they are for advanced lifters, but I recommend them to anyone who struggles with their grip on barbell and dumbbells.
4. A silky hair tie. I cannot stand working out with my hair down!
5. A massage ball/and or foam roller to use before and after the workout.
21. Your favorite set from Vitae Apparel?
Has to be my Ultra Lite Sports Bra Pastel Purple and Ultra Flex Seamless Leggings Pastel Purple! Lilac is my favorite color and the set fits so well.
22. What size are you in Vitae Apparel?
Small in tops and small in bottoms!
23. How long have you been working with Vitae Apparel?
About 2 years now but it feels like so much longer!
24. What has your experience with VITAE been like and why did you want to work with VITAE?
Vitae was one of the first activewear brands I wanted to work with when I started posting fitness content on Instagram because I loved the brands values and how their core message focused on empowering women. The outfits were (and still are!) also so cute, and they’re Canadian!
